TTEC Digital and King’s Facilities Management (KFM) inspire young minds

In a commitment to social responsibility and community development, TTEC Digital Europe has partnered with client King’s Facilities Management (KFM) to inspire the next generation of tech leaders through an initiative called “App in a Day.”

Through “App in a Day,” TTEC Digital and KFM bring the Microsoft Power Platform directly to UK students, offering them a unique opportunity to get first-hand experience in application development. In addition to teaching technical skills, this program represents a critical intervention in digital skills development, designed to ignite technological curiosity and provide hands-on learning experiences for young people who might otherwise never encounter such opportunities.

“The 'App in a Day' workshop isn't just about teaching technical skills — it's about showing students that technology is accessible, exciting, and can be a pathway to transformative career opportunities,” said Andy Elsmore, Executive Director, Technology Consulting, TTEC Digital.

TTEC Digital and KFM debuted “App in a Day” at Southbank UTC College in Brixton, England — a school for 16-19-year-old students — and has plans to roll out additional “App in a Day” sessions at more schools in England.

Led by TTEC Digital trainer Najib Hassan the inaugural session delved deep into the fundamentals of Microsoft's Power Platform, guiding students through the intricacies of app development. Through a blend of design thinking methodology and hands-on practical training, participants explored the nuances of creating model-driven apps, developed critical problem-solving skills, and learned to think from multiple perspectives.

The transformative nature of the workshop became evident as students who had previously shown no interest in technology began actively engaging, asking probing questions about career opportunities and the practical applications of their newly acquired skills. By the end of the session, several students had not only completed their own Power Apps but had also discovered a newfound passion for technological innovation.

“We're not just teaching code; we're opening doors, challenging perceptions, and demonstrating that with the right support and guidance, young people can become the tech innovators of tomorrow. This initiative reflects our deep-rooted belief that technology should be an equaliser, breaking down barriers and creating opportunities for all,” Elsmore said.

According to David Kayondo, Deputy Head of Procurement, KFM, “The 'App in a Day' workshop was a fantastic success, bringing together students and technology in a way that truly reflected our commitment to social value. By delivering this hands-on opportunity to local students, we not only provided them with valuable skills in app development with Microsoft Power Apps but also demonstrated the power of technology to solve real-world challenges.”

By providing students with the tools and opportunities to explore the world of technology, KFM and TTEC Digital hope to be a catalyst for change, inspiring young minds to become the technology leaders of tomorrow.
